| Venture Scout Program
Minnesota Lakes Maritime Museum Venture Crew sets sail for their second year of activities. The crew has built two cedar strip canoes the first year and is busy building two more this winter. The Venture program is a youth development focused. The activities are the choice of the members, boys and girls ages 14 to 21. The first year there were 10 boys and 1 girl. This year we have 12 boys registered. The group meets once a week on Wednesday evening to build the canoes and enjoy other planned activities. This makes for some slow progress as once the strips start getting applied to the “strong back form” they can only do three per side in one evening. We have worked on other parts of the finishing aspect of the canoe to help keep everyone interested.
The crew has had the canoes out on the water over the summer months. With the addition of the two new ones they are planning on a trip to show them off and have fun using them. If you know of someone that is interested in the outdoors and water based activities please call the crew advisor Craig Risnes (320-815-2288) and he will help you get registered.
